Located on Peoria’s far South Side, Harrison Homes has about 158 apartments on 31 acres.

Harrison Homes includes a Family Resource Center where children attend after-school programs including homework tutorials, games, crafts and computer literacy. Support programs, including educational services, are provided for interested families.  METEC is also on site, which serves the residents and nearby community and provides meeting space.

Harrison Homes was originally developed in the 1930’s to provide housing for Peoria’s working families. Over the past few years, the Housing Authority demolished units to clear the way for redevelopment. As of now there have been 3 phases of redevelopment to take place on the property. Harrison Homes Phase II, IIB and Phase III.

The new phases of Harrison Homes provide new, affordable housing in a walkable, neighborhood setting. The new development includes a mix of townhouses and apartments, some of which will be designated for seniors.  All units are energy efficient and some fully accessible.  The area has city streets and community green space as well as an educational playground. PHA is in the planning and development phase for the fourth installment of this construction.

The new management/maintenance office will provide offices for staff including an all purpose conference room and a public computer is also housed in this building and was completed during Phase II construction.

Eventually, PHA plans to develop approximately 200 new housing units on the Harrison site with an estimated investment of $40 million.  These plans have been approved by the PHA Board and City Council.

The site is within the Southern Gateway Initiative area and the Peoria Housing Authority has coordinated its initial efforts with School District 150.
