RiverWest, at the former Warner Homes, is a $46-million dollar family-oriented, mixed-income, townhouse neighborhood. The development was completed and occupied in 2008. Of the 153 units, 15 single-family homes are lease-to-purchase agreements. Residents are from public housing and Section 8. Some pay fair market value rents.
The Frank Campbell Community Center anchors RiverWest, a once blighted neighborhood. The interior space in the community center includes large and small meeting rooms, a branch of the Peoria Public Library and computer room as well as management offices.
A capital campaign also made RiverWest home for a public arts project with a sculpture garden, ceramic murals and paintings.
A larger-than-life bronze sculpture of Peoria-born comedian Richard Pryor by internationally-known artist Preston Jackson, takes center stage. Major gifts for the RiverWest Public Arts Project have been donated by Diversified Builders, Inc., LR Development LLC, Randolph and Associates and the Telesis Corporation. The program is partially sponsored by a grant from the Illinois Arts Counsil, a state agency, and the Peoria Area Community Foundation.
RiverWest is a cooperative and joint effort between the PHA, Telesis Corporation and LR Development, which manages a majority of the site. Thirty units are managed by PHA. You must apply at the RiverWest office, 312 S. Merriman. Call 309.637.7150 for details.
Thirty-nine percent of the work at RiverWest was awarded to minority and women-owned businesses. Of the $3.4 million budgeted for infrastructure, $1.32 million went to minority owned businesses. Women-owned businesses received $507,998 in infrastructure work.
