Public Housing

PHA owns and operates public housing developments in Peoria County with affordable rental units for eligible low-income families, seniors, and persons with disabilities.

Eligibility

Eligibility is based on annual gross income, U.S. citizenship or eligible immigration status, and background checks. Income limits are set by HUD and vary by household size.

How to Apply

  1. Call (309) 676-8736 to confirm current application hours and availability
  2. Pick up an application at the PHA office at 100 S. Richard Pryor Place, Peoria, IL 61605
  3. Complete all sections of the application
  4. Return your application in person with all required documents
  5. Be prepared for an eligibility interview when you submit

Required Documents

  • Photo ID for all adults
  • Birth certificates for all household members
  • Social Security cards
  • Proof of income (pay stubs, benefit letters, bank statements)

About Public Housing

Public Housing provides safe, affordable rental housing for eligible low-income families, seniors, and persons with disabilities. The Peoria Housing Authority owns and manages these properties throughout Peoria County.

Rent is based on your household's income, typically set at 30% of adjusted monthly income. Utilities may be included or paid separately depending on the property.

What to Expect After Applying

After you submit a complete application, you will be placed on the waitlist. Wait times vary based on unit availability, household size, and any applicable preferences. PHA will contact you when your name approaches the top of the list to verify your eligibility and offer a unit.
